ITS 2014 12 September 2014

On the 12th of July the winners of ITS 2014 (International Talent Support – young talented designers awards) were announced during the annual gala in Trieste, Italy.

From the ten finalists chosen at the pre-selection stage in April, the YKK Award 2014 went to Serbian accessories and jewellery designer, Ivana Damjanovic. Her bags design captured the jury’s attention and as a result, she was awarded the prize of 10,000 € and support from YKK for a whole year plus a feature in the October issue of the Dazed & Confused magazine.

Ivana explains: ‘The initial question I asked myself was: how would a bag look like if I had to create it using today’s technology and materials? What would it look like, if I had never seen a bag before?’

The Accessories Collection of the Year award went to Mirja Pitkaart, an accessories and jewellery designer based in Paris. She received 5,000 € for putting together CNC milling and traditional craft. She will return next year with a new accessories collection, which will be presented to the press and public at ITS 2015. She will be also part of a jury panel in next year’s competition.

The third award, YKK Special Award went to a Japanese shoes designer, Takafumi Arai, for shoes entirely made by hand - without any stitches. He received 1,000 € and an opportunity to display his collection at the YKK London Showroom to promote his work to the public.
